Saturday, March 13th, 2010
We arrived in Copenhagen at noon on Saturday, staying until Wednesday, March 17th.
On the first afternoon we went on a walking tour around the city center. We visited the Court House and the Vor Frue Kirke, built at the end of the 19th centuary by the Architect Christian Frederik Hansen, as well as the Thorvalsens Museum (Architect Michael Gottlieb Bindesbol, 1839-1848). We passed the Opera, built by Henning Larsens Architects, and the Playhouse, built by Lundgaard & Tranberg, situated directly at the waterfront, and continued to the new district in Sondre Frihavn "Amerika Plads" with housing, shops and buisiness. Finally, our last stop was Chalottehaven, a modern housing block with 178 appartments and an extensive courtyard with a kindergarten, swimming pool etc.

Sunday, March 14th
We set off to the NY Tojhus site, which has commercial buildings as well as housing, and is situated by the Langebro bridge on Islands Brygge. On the way we walked along the waterfront, which displays a magnificent site of Havnestaden and Sydhavnen. Passing the Seed Silo in Havnestad, converted by the dutch architects MVRDV, we crossed the river and headed to Havneholmen. This is a new district with housing, buisiness, hotel and harbour. The masterplan was designed by Wingardh Arkitektenkontor AB and the buildings by Lundgaard & Tranberg and Wingardh Arkitektenkontor. Finally we visited Sluseholmen, a new canal town in Sydhavnen with about 1000 homes spread over eight man-made islands.

Monday, March 15th
On this morning the group set off early to visit the Regional Development Department in Hovedstaden. Hovedstaden is the Capital Region of Denmark and the region is responsible for health care and regional development. We were introduced to the Regional Development Plan 2008, which reflects on qualities and strengths of the region and the specific challenges.
Afterwards, on our way to Orestad, we looked at the Bikuben Kollegiat, a students residence building, inaugurated in 2006, and the Tietgen Kollegiet, also a students residence with 360 apartments.
Orestad was a prestige project in Copenhagen with buildings like VM Mountain (BIG Architects) - a spectacular project with 80 apartments, combining housing and parking, and is characteristic for the Orestads Boulevard.
The day ended finally with a trip to the sea side to visit the Maritime Youth House, designed by PLOT Architect.

Tuesday, March 16th
On Tuesday we travelled over the connecting Öresundbridge to Malmö, which is the commercial center of southern Sweden. The Universitetsholmen is the largest of the two recent development areas for the new Malmö University. At the university we met the programme directors of our partners. The students were introduced to the university and the library. Finally we went on a guided tour through the Western Habour, which has been developed since 2001. The Turning Torso, designed by Santiago Calatrava, is a concise tower, which marks the area.
