Health Insurance

Health Insurance

According to German law (welfare legislation and immigration legislation) students must obtain a health insurance policy from a valid provider. Students from EU and other partner nations may be able to simply notify their provider and temporarily transfer the policy to Germany. In all the other cases it is advisable to join the so called Mandatory Health Insurance (Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung-GKV): it is less complicated than bringing private insurance from home and normally it is cheaper.

Insurance companies work with our International Office. During the enrollment process students can register for health insurance at a kiosk in front of the International and Admissions Offices.

The Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) and AOK are two of the most popular choices. Information (only in German) can be found on their web site at www.tk.de/tk/versicherung-und-tarife/bei-der-tk-versichert/als-student/40454 and at www.aok-on.de/hessen
Mr. Jan Müller is the local TK representative and can be reached at jan.mueller@tk-online.de .
Mr. Thomas Wendt is the AOK representative and can be reached at thomas.wendt@he.aok.de
