Introductory Week 2008

The Master Programme Urban Agglomerations began with an Introductory Week.
The students were welcomed by our President Dr.-Ing. Detlev Buchholz, the Dean of our faculty, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Reymendt and the Programme Director Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Peterek. During this week the students were able to get to know the university and all institutions located at the campus.

After an extensive presentation of the modules and the course structure we introduced the students to the city of Frankfurt. We went on a tour of the inner city, explaining the medieval heritages as well as the modern structures. We visited various housing settlements developed by Ernst May in 1925 such as the Römerstadt, Praunheim and Westhausen. Prof. Peterek took the students on a tour of the western habour and the riverside, which have been redeveloped in the past years and have now been converted into intra-urban residential quarters.

A highlight was definatly the invitation to one of the biggest german architectural and city planning offices in Germany, AS & P Albert Speer und Partner, located in Frankfurt, Sachsenhausen. Joachim Schares, member of the management, welcomed us and showed us the office and various international projects.

To complete the week we ended up in a typical german "Apfelweinkneipe", a location serving traditional food as well as the very common drink, apple cider.
