Introductory Week

For the second time the Master Programme Urban Agglomerations began with a group of international students, coming from all over the world, such as from Brazil, Chile, Columbia,Ethiopia, Iceland, Malaysia, Nigeria, Qatar, Spain, Taiwan, USA , Venezuela etc. We started the course with an Introductory Week. During this week the students were able to get to know the university and all institutions located at the campus.

The students were welcomed by our President Dr.-Ing. Detlev Buchholz, the Dean of our faculty, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Reymendt, the Programme Director and Vice-dean, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Peterek and the coordinator, Caroline Günther. The lecturing colleagues introduced the modules they are going to teach in the coming two semesters.  Following up, we took the students on a tour of the city of Frankfurt, visiting the inner city, explaining the medieval heritages as well as the modern structures. The tour ended at the western harbour, an area which has been redeveloped during the last few years an now offers urban residential quarters as well as office buildings.

As last year, we were able to visit one of the biggest german architectural and city planning offices in Germany, AS & P Albert Speer und Partner, located in Frankfurt, Sachsenhausen. Michael Denkel, a member of the management, invited us and gave us an insight in the current projects and also showed us around the office.  Afterwards we took the group to a  typical german "Apfelweinkneipe", a location serving traditional food as well as the very common drink, apple cider.

To finally round up the week we took our students on a tour of the housing projects of the "new Frankfurt", developed in 1929 by Ernst May.
