There is a word that I commonly use to describe Frankfurt: Frankfurt is a modern Babel.  One trip in the Public Transport System is enough to get in contact with different cultures and languages coming from all continents and converging in a spot in the middle of Europe. Therefore, this multicultural place is a vibrant and dynamic city as well as a very well connected center that is a perfect gate for traveling Europe.

On the other hand the Urban Agglomerations Master Programme has proved to be beyond the expectations in terms of introducing us to the wide spectrum and responsibilities that the Urban Sciences have. Beyond the formal approach to urban design, the master has been a window to the fact that trying to understand our cities is also trying to understand our societies. In this way, history, economics, politics and technical information are analyzed as a whole, not only to understand today’s reality but also to think about a more social responsible and sustainable future.

I chose the Master of Urban Agglomeration because I am interested in the course and also the professors. I searched for a lot of info about the course before I decided to study this master course. The most interesting part for me is the project work and the interdisciplinary project. I think this is what I am looking for: doing projects as if I were a real city planner; collecting data about a specific area, analyzing it, proposing a plan and then presenting it in front of the "stakeholders".  The exchange semester is also interesting.

Of all the programs that I looked at, I found the M. Sc. Urban Agglomerations covered a variety of topics so that I could explore urban problems that face different cities around the world today and the variety of responses to meet those challenges. The program certainly increased my understanding of city planning and I can now make better decisions for planning a more equitable, vibrant and sustainable places. One of the benefits studying at FH Frankfurt is the different nationalities of the students and to live in a city very accessible, very international, and well located in Europe. I definitely recommend this course!

Studying “Urban Agglomerations” within one of the most important “Urban Agglomerations” in Germany (Rhine Main Region) expresses the closeness between the course and reality. Phenomena and experience of daily life in the context of urban planning and urban living are very significant topics of this Master Course. The multicultural city of Frankfurt reflects the internationality of students. Varying experiences from different courses of various countries form an interesting base knowledge in the field of the interdisciplinary program. The Master’s Program in Urban Agglomerations at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences provides a critical foundation of contemporary urban and regional planning practices with an international focus and interdisciplinary approach.  Our instructors bring relevant academic and professional expertise to the classroom from a wide range of fields, which allows for a deep understanding of individual topics while realizing how urban issues are connected in a broader sense.  The regular class field trips expose students to planning in the real world, with opportunities to witness planning in action firsthand, as well as to network with established professionals.  The international composition and diverse professional backgrounds of the students exemplifies the best characteristics of the program.  Where else can you find a team with an architect from Qatar, engineer from Iceland and geographer from America?

Germany is the greatest place to study urban planning. I was looking for a high academic level master plan and I found not only the finest university, but the perfect location to learn. The Urban Agglomerations Master is taught by world known professionals, professors who are always willing to share their wide knowledge with the students, and the university helps you through the process of applying and getting settled . The city, with its very organized environment,  is constantly improving itself, and providing the best conditions to students in every way possible.
Frankfurt it’s a city where you can see urban planning working, where a variety of cultures meet.  I have learnt from a lot from my the studies but more from my own classmates, as we all have very different backgrounds and beliefs coming together in the academic ground and expanding our view of the world.

Susana Restrepo Rico, Columbia

I was seeking to connect my profession, architecture, with something related with embracing more people and doing something for the world. Urban Agglomerations program is exactly what it is about and it has provided me to enhance myself on the issues about how to create more human scale, collective and self-sustainable built environments for everyone. In a world that is urbanizing faster than history has ever seen, studying such an issue with a global perspective will lead to an important career that is to be increasingly sought for. For me, dealing with the problems about betterment of life qualities and working for common good through urban development field is not only exciting but also idealistic. FH FFM provides a unique opportunity about the current global issues and also enhances it by allowing students to go for diverse partner universities to widen the perspective. Besides, all those is provided in the heart of Europe, in an alpha world city of Frankfurt.

Why did I choose to come to Germany? Well... there won’t be any better place to study urban development, that’s undeniable. Once you open your mind, and realize that cities are now our true nature and most of the population in the world will be living in one urban agglomeration, you cannot stop thinking about this master’s program. That’s what it happened to me. Here I have the chance to study in detail all this urban matters and see the examples live on the excursions we regularly do.

On the other hand, Frankfurt is perfect for carrying out my studies.
Transport is not a problem as I can use the bus and train’s system freely and unlimited, which also connects me to the rest of Europe from the centre itself. The city skyline is impressive and public space all around the city is very nice and well oriented for walking and cycling.
There is always something to do as many places are open for you to go like museums, theatres, music halls, restaurants and clubs; and if it’s the right day you can also go to one the seasonal fares and markets.

Juan Carlos Domínguez, Columbia

Urbanism and sustainability are both hot topics at the moment and very important aspects for all future development. The M.Sc Urban Agglomerations offers an intensive and profound study of these matters, with international as well as domestic case studies and excursions. We are learning a great deal from our professors and also from each other, coming from all continents of the world.  Personally the program has proven to be a very good combination of my former B.Sc studies in engineering and my interest in politics as well as city planning. Studying in Frankfurt is also a great opportunity to learn German and travel, being situated in the center of Europe.
