Bachelor of Laws in Business Law (LL.B.)

The University of Applied Sciences Frankfurt has been running the Bachelor programme in Business Law since the summer semester 2005. It is a law degree that qualifies graduates for management tasks situated at the nexus of legal and economic functions.

The programme comprises seven semesters full time and leads to a Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) degree. Upon fulfilment of admissions requirements, this programme may be continued with a consecutive Masters degree in “Negotiating and Designing Contracts”.

This programme replaces the Diplom programme in Business Law, which had been educating Diplom Wirtschaftsjurist/inn/en (FH) since 1997. This practice-oriented dual qualification has been established as a qualification appreciated by enterprises, auditing firms, business and tax consultancies and law firms, despite restrictions placed on external legal advice by the Monopoly of Legal Advice Act.

The LL.B. programme in Business Law comprises 60% law, 30% economics and 10% key qualifications.  The entire programme has been developed and restructured, partly  based on feedback of graduates and alumni who work in the field and have stayed in touch with the faculty. We have integrated courses in industrial property protection, judicial and extra judicial law enforcement and bankruptcy law as mandatory modules, as these fields are increasingly in demand in business law professions. Additionally, we have integrated exercises in civil law in order to facilitate students’ access to legal methodology.

The programme distinguishes itself from traditional law degrees in linking law and economics related contents even at an early stage of studies. A focus on business relevant legal fields, its seminar-based structure, as well as the required semester-long internship are integral to the programme. What sets it apart from business degrees is its emphasis on the methodological instruments legal professionals need.

Students acquire the ability to find legally and economically sound solutions, critically evaluate various courses of action, and make decisions independently. They are able to competently argue their decisions and put them into practice.

The full time programme targets national and international students with adequate university entrance qualifications.
