Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Negotiating and Designing Contracts

The Master program in Negotiating and Designing Contracts fills a gap in business law education and combines an advanced theoretical education in law with the practical skills required in the drafting, negotiation and management of contracts. Building on the foundations acquired in previous programs of study and experience, students will gain relevant practical knowledge and a strong theoretical background at a high academic level. Useful information on strategy and tactics can be found in the curriculum. The curriculum of this Master’s degree revolves around well-prepared case studies from up-to-date real-world business practice that will foster interdisciplinary thinking and problem-solving skills.

Practice oriented education

The first two semesters of the program focus on negotiating (also in international settings) and theoretical foundations in contract design and contract management. Also included are practical training in methods and tools for contract preparation (due diligence, rating, etc.) and conflict resolution (arbitration, mediation, etc.). The first two semesters comprise three modules that focus specifically on contractual issues arising from a range of business operations such as project and exchange agreements, management and human resources, enterprise and corporations. A particular emphasis is placed on international aspects; accordingly, the three modules covering international contracts are taught in English. Case studies enhance the theoretical parts with real-world cases in many of the modules offered. In these case studies, students can apply and enhance the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in a practical context. Core courses are complemented by two required elective modules, which focus on the areas of contract design and contract management. Students have the choice between “Corporate Finance” and “IT and New Media”. In the third semester, the curriculum deepens the students’ knowledge of international contractual law and covers economic analysis of law as well as tax implications of contract design. During the remainder of the semester, students complete their Master thesis.

Highly qualified lecturers

Professors teaching and supervising on the Master program are highly qualified professionals who have obtained expert knowledge in various areas within their field. Through professional engagement and continuing analysis, they stay abreast of the increasingly dynamic legal, economic and political landscape and can thus convey the most current knowledge to our students.
