Biological Process Engineering

As a graduate in biological process engineering, you will apply your knowledge in the fields of natural and engineering sciences in order to design and utilise biotechnological processes and equipment. You will produce high quality health and nutritional products, such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics or food. The production of these items by way of biological systems (bacteria, fungi, cell culture) is defined as ‘life science’.

During your six semesters of study, you will acquire the essential knowledge of natural and engineering science that will qualify you for a profession in this field. Furthermore, you will acquire specialised knowledge from the fields of biotechnology and biological process engineering, as well as business studies and supplementary social skills.

A requirement for this study programme is a university admission qualification. Admission is subject to a regional numerus clausus procedure and studies commence in winter semester only.

You must submit proof of an eight-week internship latest at the completion of the first three semesters foundational studies. The remaining five weeks internship are to be completed at the latest by the time of registration for the final dissertation. The fourth semester of studies is conducted entirely in the English language.
