Entrance tests in January and June
The Preparatory College (Studienkolleg)
If your school leaving certificate does not match the Higher Education direct entry requirements in Germany you will have to attend preparatory classes for one year at the so called Studienkolleg which in our case is affiliated with the (neighbouring) Goethe University in Frankfurt. You will be accepted for these classes only upon successfully passing the entry examination. Details about language requirements for the entry exam can be found at Language requirements.
The courses you will follow correspond to different subject areas such as technology, business or medicine. You will be placed in the respective course according to your school documents and the academic discipline you have chosen. Please note that you cannot switch between different thematic courses.
An important part of the Studienkolleg classes is dedicated to improve your German language skills. You will not have to pass an additional language exam after successfully completing the Studienkolleg course.
At the end of the one year (two semesters) course you will have to pass the final Studienkolleg exam (“Feststellungsprüfung”) which you may only repeat once.
Attendance in Studienkolleg classes is free of charge.
All Fachhochschule applicants who must attend the Studienkolleg will receive the relevant information and invitation letter for taking part in the entry exam by the Fachhochschule International Office. Direct applications to attend the Studienkolleg will not be processed.
