State-to-state partnerships

Hessen universities maintain an extensive international exchange and promote the mobility of students, teachers and researchers. Below you will find an overview of our various activities.

Hessen Massachusetts Program
This program allows students of universities in the University of Massachusetts System to spend one or two semesters at one of the participating Hessen universities. You can find more information about the program here. The International Office of your university can help you find a suitable university for your study abroad experience.

Hessen Queensland Program
The Hessen Queensland Program is a result of many years of close contact between FH FFM and Queensland University of Technology. This program’s goal is to encourage exchange on a university level and further internationalization of Hessian Universities. The program is backed by the Hessen Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts and the Ministry for Education, Queensland Government. The International Office of the FH FFM coordinates the program’s activities for all Hessen universities.
Students of participating Queensland universities can spend one or two semesters at FH FFM. The program offers students the opportunity of study abroad experience without tuition fees at one of Hessens participating universities. The International Office of your university can help you find a suitable Hessen university for your study abroad experience. More information about the program can be found here.

Hessen-Wisconsin program
Based on the state partnership between Wisconsin and the German State of Hessen an agreement for university cooperation was signed in 1998. In the following years, an exchange program for students of Hessen and Wisconsin was established. You can find more information about the program here. The international office of your university can help you find a suitable university for your study abroad experience.

Hessen International Summer University
Hessen’s International Summer Universities take place in the summer months at different universities in Hessen. International students have the opportunity to participate in a four-week study program, complete with German language courses and a cultural program including events, excursions and workshops. More information can be found here.
FH FFM organizes the International Summer University ISU Frankfurt with the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University.

Hessen Universities Consortium in New York
The consortium is one of many initiatives for the intensification of US relations, which the Hessen Universities and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts have been supporting for many years.
In 2004 the Hessen universities joined a university consortium and in April 2005 were able to open a collective contact office in the German House opposite the United Nations in New York.
The most important task at the moment is “friendraising”, which will help raise new partners’ interest in the offers of Hessen universities and create new contacts. The contact office also encourages existing exchange relationships and intensifies the many contacts between Hessian and North American universities. You can find more information about the Hessen Universities office here.

Hessen Networks!
Hessen Networks! is a joint project of the Hessen universities, which coordinates activities in the area of internships abroad. In addition to supervision of the web portal, consultancy services and information presentations, Hessen Networks! is in charge of supporting cooperation agreements between the State of Hessen and its international partners in all questions dealing with internships abroad.
Students who wish to complete an internship in Hessen can find useful information on the website and receive help during the process of obtaining a work permit, etc. You can find more information here.
